“It’s not cheating!” really

What constitutes cheating I ask myself on a regular basis.  Is cheating looking over the shoulder of a friend during an exam for the answers, stacking your work on another OFFICE colleagues desk to make you look efficient, or simply using your status as a uni student to buy cheap software from the folks at www.itsnotcheating.com.au .  According to the folks at www.itsnotcheating.com.au its not cheating if you -

  • YOU DO IT IN ANOTHER POSTCODE
  • YOU USE THE THESAURUS IN WORD
  • YOU DRINK LIGHT BEER
  • YOU’RE HOME BEFORE MIDNIGHT
  • YOU DON’T GET CAUGHT
  • So I ask is using your status as a uni student to enter blog competitions, and pruchase cheap software cheating (Microsoft Office Ultimate Edition 2007 for $75.00) or is it taking advantage of a generous offer.  If it is  who is it cheating, why is it cheating, what are the ramifications of cheating, can anyone help me out.

    What is your lucky charm?

Following a chat with other nookers on the topic of raffles I was wondering what other nookers call their lucky charms.  I have several what are yours?

Are we as a society doing enough to keep our kids alive on the roads?  After another horror night on the roads a friend of my mother’s was woken with the news that her 19 year old nephew was dead.  Victim of a road accident.  While there is no official verdict on the cause of the accident there was obvious factors that contributed to the incident.  Inexperience, speed, and a late night.  Should we be insisting on the government making it harder to get a liscence?  Should we insist on restricted driving hours?  Should we lobby for having the engine capacity of cars our kids are allowed to drive be restricted to something slightly above a lawn mower?  How do we stop our children killing themselves on the road?

    Are you all raffeled out?

I don’t know about the rest of you but I have started responding to the telemarketing crowed trying to flog raffle ticket with “I am sorry but I am all raffled out!”  While all the Charities are worthwhile I found that each year I was approached by at least six charities very three months to buy tickets.  For awhile I would pick one group and buy for a couple of draws but eventually I was over it.  How about the rest of you do you think the era of the raffle is over for charities trying to raise cash they desperately need?  Or is it more the fact that there is a whole industry out there that has evolved around organising fundraising and the charity only gets a percentage of the proceeds and Joe public is aware of it?  Would you still buy tickets or would you just rathedr make a donation?
Have any of you noticed that we send our kind, gentle, and intellegent children to school only to be subjected to bullying, harrassment and ridicule from teachers and fellow students because they aren’t all round perfect athletes and scholars?

Do you miss Hey Hey its Saturday?

Growing up with Daryl, Auzzie and Plucka was one of the greatest TV viewing experiences I had.  Do you miss Hey Hey its Saturday?  If your saying what then what TV show do you remember the most and why?

Why are people so rude to Nurses?

While sitting in emergency departments or visiting relatives and friends in hospital have you noticed how rude some people are to nurses.  Can anyone explain why.

    My first post

Hi to all those who are currently weaving their way through the various Nooks that have sprung up over the last few weeks.  I will have to admit that this is a new experience for me.  For the past twenty two years my partner has been on the rocky road of the PC boom while I have chosen to be blissfully unaware of the delights of front room computing.  However following a midlife career review I have been thrust into the IT arena hence the need to develop a rapport with current technology.  For years I have used excuses such as “I don’t need to know how to do that at the moment (my partner does so if I want something more than a letter typed he will do it for me), orI will learn it when I need it for work”.  I bet there are lots of you out there that resisted the tech evolution by similar rationalizations when all along the reason probably was that it just looked too hard and was too confusing.  I started venturing from my comfort zone by undertaking Post Graduate studies in the evolving discipline of Health (or Clinical) Informatics.  While I am still attempting to master some reasonably basic skills in application utilization I have been on a sharpe learning curve over the last 12 months and to my surprise really loving it.  So all of you out there that are hesitant about changing your career or learning something new give yourself a treat and take the leap.
